細胞周期是細胞生命活動的基本過程，細胞在周期時相的變遷中進入增值、分化、衰老和死亡等生理狀態(tài)。細胞周期分為間期和分裂期：間期又分為三期、即DNA合成前期（G1期）、DNA合成期（S期）與DNA合成后期（G2期）；分裂期（M期）又分為前期，中期，后期和末期。
研究發(fā)現(xiàn)在細胞周期中起非常重要的幾類調(diào)控因子：一類是細胞生長因子對細胞分裂增殖有調(diào)控作用，如血小板衍生生長因子PDGF、轉(zhuǎn)化生長因子TGF等；另一類是細胞周期調(diào)控因子，包括細胞周期蛋白cyclin、細胞周期蛋白依賴激酶CDK、CDK抑制因子CKI和促進CDK調(diào)節(jié)因子降解的酶復合物（如SCF和APC酶復合物）。
由于細胞周期的失調(diào)與腫瘤的發(fā)生密切相關(guān)，同時細胞周期調(diào)控因子也參與體內(nèi)多種細胞分化，因此目前對細胞周期調(diào)控的研究也是生物學研究的熱點課題，更深更廣地探討分子間相互作用和基因表達調(diào)控的機制，為以后腫瘤的治療提供新的思路。
